It was a small, but enthusiastic group of around 10 juniors who turned up to take part in challenges and competitions on Friday.
The Blitz also lured a handful of senior players eager to try their hand at the serve-speed radar gun setup for the event.
South Coast tennis coordinator Troy Smith said despite the small turnout to Friday’s event he was still hopeful to see a good response from the community.
“Players can still go online and register and that will still earn points for the town,” Smith said.
He said taking part was very simple and would increase Bega’s chances of being paired up with a top level player at the Australian Open next year.
“Essentially you just go on and register when you’ve played tennis,” he said.
“It all earns points for the town so we’d like to see as many people as we can signing up.”
Paul Warren and his father, Bob, were feeling a little bit competitive and took to the speed radar.
Bob posted a solid speed of 127kmh, but Paul had other plans aiming to break 150kmh.
His attempts were varied, firing off serves from 105 to 135kmh.
Meanwhile, Merimbula tennis coach James Poso was not to be outdone on the day posting 162kmh from his serve before having to leave for a training session.
Smith upped the ante for the the Warrens and local tennis coordinator John Rheinberger offering Wimbledon shirts as prizes for the winners.
Rheinberger had to chase Bob’s top speed and be within 10kmh, while Paul was tasked with getting up to 160kmh from the racquet.
Bob’s final serve blasted through at 134kmh, but Rheinberger proved the goods picking up the 124 on his last to be within 10 and win.
Paul also showed some finesse with a 159 early in his five shots and then on his last blasted the 160 to pick up a shirt on the day.
The session was enjoyed by everyone in attendance and Smith said he was looking forward to seeing more people take part in tennis around the area.
