Bega Convoy for Kids ready to roll

THE CONVOY for Kids is a nationwide rally of trucks and other heavy vehicles that raises money for children with cancer and their families.

It’s Bega’s turn to put on a show on October 26 and hopefully raise thousands for the cause.

An impressive array of trucks of all shapes and sizes, utes and even a historic bus will be travelling in convoy from the Bega Cheese Heritage Centre to the Bega Showground via Carp St.

It is the Bega convoy’s fifth event, which is held biennially in October by the local transport industry.

Organiser Adam Twyford said almost 100 trucks will take part in the event, although with last minute entries still coming in the convoy could top 2011’s record of 110.

“Our last event raised $20,000 for children with cancer so it would be good to reach that target,” he said.

“Although we won’t be holding the post-convoy dinner this year, the community is always very supportive of this event.”

The convoy will leave the Bega Cheese Ridge St site at 11.30am, travel over Bega Bridge and on to Carp St where people can get a great look at this impressive procession of heavy vehicles before ending at Bega Showground.

If you want to be closer to the action, there will be a bus leaving from Ridge St and arriving at the showground which the public can board to be part of the convoy.

Parents and children can ride on the bus for a gold coin donation.

Once at the showground, the public can attend the Convoy For Kids fun day, with entry just $5 for adults and admittance for children free of charge.

“There will be entertainment, food and trade stalls, coffee vans, games, jumping castle, face painting and all the trucks on show,” Ms Hinde said.

“A charity auction will also be held on the day.”

Adam Twyford of Bobbins Transport says he is hoping for 100-plus trucks in the upcoming Convoy for Kids through Bega.
