“You cannot underestimate the value of strong ties between Rural Crime Investigators, local police and the community in the detection and prevention of rural crime,” Detective Senior Constable, Naomi Stoddart said.
“Detective Senior Constable Phil McCloskey and I are police specifically assigned to the investigation of Rural Crime in the Monaro. Our area encompasses a long list of regional townships within the Monaro, including Bombala, Delegate and surrounds.”
Detective Stoddart told us that many rural crimes which impact on the community occur regularly in the area, including stock theft, plant and machinery theft, illegal hunting and other activities.
“Some people may not be aware that we exist and I would like to reinforce the importance of the prompt reporting of any suspected rural crime activity, even if it is anonymously over the phone,” she said.
“It is also important to report being the victim of a suspected stock theft or rural crime.”
