This is a government supported program, and Delegate is one of only 178 schools which is currently running the popular and worthwhile scheme.
The program is designed to teach students that tasty, fresh food can be both fun and good for you, with the cycle of growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing food all being a part of the program.
Geoffrey Griggs from ABC radio officially opened the Stephanie Alexander facilities on the day, with the school’s own garden and kitchen specialists, Susan Tocchini and Jeannie Holker also sharing a few words.
Also amongst the special guests were Bombala Council’s Diane Hampshire and Robyn Guthrie, along with Council’s Karen Cash who is involved in the Bundian Way Project.
With this track being so nearby the school, the Delegate PS is extending the garden to include bush tucker plantings as part of the program.
There are also plans in the future to develop an open camp fire cook out area and pizza oven.
The Delegate Public School would like to thank all of its guests, including the St Joseph’s School for coming along, and the wider community who supported the special day.
An invitation is extended to anyone who would like to come and join the school in this very unique program to get involved, be it in the garden or kitchen, or both!
