POLICE officers and volunteers from around the Far South Coast received medals and recognition when the NSW Police Local Area Command held its awards ceremony at the Narooma Golf Club last week.

Senior Constable Gary Traynor acted as master of ceremonies on behalf of Superintendent Jeffrey Loy.
The first awards handed out were the National Medals, which are awarded to members of the NSW Police, the Ambulance Service, the Fire Brigade, the Australian Correctional Service, the Australian Protective Service and the State Emergency Services, who have completed long service with their organisation.
Receiving the awards of the National Medal for 15 years service were:
Sergeant Bradley Swan who was attested as a probationary constable on November 5, 1984.
He left the NSW Police in 1989 to pursue other interests and then in September 1992 he rejoined as a probationary constable.
He was promoted to Senior Constable in 1995 and to the rank of sergeant in 1997.
Sergeant Swan has served at Newtown, Surry Hills and City Central Police Stations before transferring to Bega Police Station in July 2001.
Sergeant Swan has previously received the NSW Police Medal for 10 years service, and the first clasp to the NSW Police Medal for 15 years service.
Senior Constable Phil Hoye was attested as a probationary constable on January 21, 1991 and promoted to senior constable in January, 1996.
Senior Constable Hoye commenced his service in the Bondi-Eastern Beaches areas of Sydney prior to transferring to Eden in 1993.
He served at Eden until 1 April 1999 when he transferred to Bega Police Station to serve in Highway Patrol.
Senior Constable Hoye has previously received the NSW Police Medal for 10 years service.
Senior Constable Cindy Putvinas was attested as a probationary constable on October 26, 1990, and promoted to senior constable in October, 1995.
She began her service in the Bankstown area before transferring to Bega in 2001.
Senior Constable Putvinas has previously received the NSW Police Medal for 10 years service.
Senior Constable Mark Jones was attested as a probationary constable on January 21, 1991, and promoted to senior constable in January 1996.
He began his service in the Burwood-Drummoyne areas of Sydney, prior to transferring to Monaro District in 1994.
He served at Queanbeyan and Michelago Stations, before transferring to Batemans Bay in 1998 and then in May 2002 he transferred to Tathra Police Station.
Senior Constable Jones has previously received the NSW Police Medal for 10 years service.
The NSW Police could not function without the support of the local community. The most obvious form of this support are the unpaid volunteers from the local community.
To show their gratitude, the NSW Police issues certificates to these volunteers whenever they reach a significant milestone in their involvement with the organisation.
Malcolm Elmslie has been involved with NSW Police as a volunteer for almost 10 years during which he has provided more than 3,000 hours of unpaid support to Cobargo Police Station, providing valuable clerical assistance to the officer at Cobargo.
He received a certificate and badge for 3,000 hours of unpaid volunteer work with the NSW Police.
Kerry Macuada has been involved with NSW Police as a volunteer for five years. During that period she had provided 1,500 hours of unpaid support to Bega Police Station, providing valuable clerical assistance to the officers.
She received a certificate and badge for 1,500 hours of unpaid volunteer work with the NSW Police.
