IN ORDER to be able to succeed, one of a student’s most valuable assets should be enthusiasm, the principal of Bega High School, Miss Pam Wellham, told Year 10 students at their presentation afternoon on Friday.

“Enthusiasm means you believe deeply in your work, job, company and school.
“You believe your part is important because you contribute to the cause, therefore you are willing to work hard to achieve your goals,” Miss Wellham said.
The guest speaker was Abelia Laurie, a former Bega High School student and former SRC president.
She addressed her remarks principally to those going on to Years 11 and 12.
She said both years would be challenging.
“They challenge your ability to manage your time, sustain friendships and manage the negative energy that may arise mentally and physically as a result of stressful periods.
“However, equally significant is the challenge of your thinking.
“Years 11 and 12 are designed to confront your way of thinking, question your reasoning, and suggest additional possibilities with regard to a particular subject or topic area.”
She said that in senior school it was easy to get caught up in one’s own personal dilemmas, but “remember to keep your thoughts and actions in perspective to the whole world”.
“We live in a democracy and we have to learn to say what we believe in, so that the people who represent us can accurately reflect our beliefs,” Miss Laurie said.
