Andrew McPherson (BDN, 12/6) makes a number of negative comments about my interaction with people in the electorate.
Is this the same Andrew McPherson from Kalaru who sent an email to my office on December 21 last year (in response to a letter and survey I had sent to him) which said “Please immediately cease and desist sending any letters, advertising material emails or surveys to me”?
It is a bit rich for him to now be complaining about me not being willing to communicate, given that was what he wanted in his own case.
And that was after I had been in communication with him.
Mr McPherson also asked when will we see progress on the Colombo Plan.
That plan was funded in the budget.
Indeed in May, the Foreign Minister Julie Bishop met the first group of students travelling to Singapore under the plan.
The new Colombo Plan is on track and now operating.

Tathra champions
On a recent trip with my wife we were seriously entertained by two champion surf lifesavers from Tathra Surf Life Club.
The savers being long time stalwarts Phil Harris and Tony McCabe.
The surf pounding onto the bars and beach at Kuta (everybody knows where Kuta is) was out of control and to all very dangerous.
Two young surfers lost their way some 100metres offshore.
The rescue operation was hand-balled to the Tathra champs.
Without hesitation both savers swam through seas most people would not even challenge.
Both Phil and Tony gave the locals and others a brilliant exhibition of Aussie life saving techniques bringing both distressed surfers back to the beach and safety.
The thing that amazes me was that both guys went through this dramatic rescue without expecting a slap or pat on the back (although we had a few drinks later).
Well with my wife and I and all who witnessed the rescue these two guys are true blue Aussie champions.

Credit where due
Regarding the Demystifying Death and Dying story (BDN, 10/6) - nowhere in this article is the mention of Lorraine James or Beth Dogan.
I feel credit should be given where credit is due.
The initial vision of Lorraine James was of having a cardboard coffin as an alternative to the more expensive traditional wooden coffin.
They were both the instigators of the event and a lot of time and effort went into the three day event.
As an outsider looking in I say more power to them and well done.
They have become the quiet achievers of the whole weekend and need to be given more credit than a photo on page seven for the time and effort taken to set up such an event.
Well done I say Lorraine and Beth, great weekend, great event, great idea and great job.
I spoke to people that had travelled some distance just to see the event.

Shocking decision
Lucky I’m not a three-year-old so I no longer believe in fairies.
However, I think our Premier does.
Selling off our electricity poles and wires is going to lead to cheaper prices and is good for NSW – What?!
Does he believe the purchaser does not want to recoup its money?
The CEO of this company is going to forgo $3 to $10million salary and live on the equivalent of a weekly pension?
Does he believe the 1.6 annual loss in revenue will not be replaced by additional taxes?
Here we go again - sell off public assets, government wastes money, lowest income earners and pensioners pay.
It’s got to stop.

Selling us short
We are now preparing to celebrate the centenary of Anzac and World War 1, our so-called "coming of age" as a nation (notwithstanding remaining tied and subservient to Britain until after WW2 and since then to the USA).
No doubt we must again anticipate myriads of boozy young men with flags wrapped around their shoulders, an embarrassing testimony to their crassness and ignorance.
We really do have much to be proud of and to celebrate as a nation, but the jingoism and populism, so cynically peddled by our fearless leader and others and passed off as patriotism, sells us all short.
Until we cease going "all the way with LBJ" or Clinton or Bush or Obama and their heirs and successors forever, we will never be able to claim full and independent nationhood.
We are being conned by Uncle Sam, just as we were conned by John Bull until 1945, because the military-industrial complex that really runs America will not lift a finger for Australia unless there is a benefit for itself.
