Having taken part in many hunting expos in Europe I was delighted to have had the opportunity to visit the HuntFest held in Narooma this long weekend.
The organising committee, in particular Dan Field and members of the South Coast Hunters, together with all exhibitors are to be congratulated on their excellent presentations.
The high numbers of interested viewers, young and old, confirms that there is indeed an interest and a necessity for future informative exhibitions of this nature.
Despite opposition from a sadly misinformed minority who unjustly endeavour to stigmatise hunters and associate them with criminal elements, it is vital the hunting faculty be presented to the general public as a well organised, legal and legitimate body and this has definitely been achieved in Narooma.

Reasons for refusal?
What a very interesting decision by council to not allow through the Kalaru-based independent school proposal, allowing for a new school to be built in our community.
Reasons given, according to the article in the BDN (1/4), were that the children going to the Sapphire Coast Drive school proposal couldn't "walk" to the school.
Sorry councillors, how many children "walk" to the Anglican College, or to Lumen Christi?
Couldn't you come up with a better reason than that?
A school proposal based on environmental ideas, in a bush setting - sounds like it might give some other schools a real run for their money.
I for one support them and am sure there would be a full attendance rate.
Two Christian-based high schools and two public schools doesn't really encompass the diversity in this community.

Pensioners beware
Old age pensioners beware!
Next time you see Tony Abbott or Joe Hockey gazing from your TV screen, reassuring you, sincerely, that there will be no change to your pension in the budget, understand that this is a technical truth.
It's not telling you the full facts.
Yes, the base pension is unaffected.
However, the pension supplement will be abolished from July 1.
Personally, I'll be $62 a fortnight worse off.
How about you?
To clarify, ring the Centrelink seniors line on 132 300 and the recorded message will confirm this information.
We're being tricked.

Where’s Peter?
Peter Hendy claims that Mike Kelly is suffering from "massive relevance deprivation syndrome" (BDN, 30/5).
I put it to you that Peter Hendy suffers from "massive visibility deprivation syndrome".
Has anybody else tried to see Peter Hendy?
Has anybody else written to Peter Hendy?
If you haven't yet, good luck when your time comes.
On the issue of relevance, when will we see progress on "...the new Colombo Plan to establish closer ties between Australia and the region and develop stronger people to people links...", as extolled by Peter Hendy on August 30 last year?
With respect, I think it would be prudent for Doctor Hendy to shut up about relevance.
