The Bombala Blue Heelers football squads made the 60 minute trek north to take on the Cooma Stallions and Fillies in round 5 of the Group 16 competition on Saturday.

It was the Cooma Club’s Heritage round and there was a big crowd with a few Heeler fans there to watch Cooma win against the first and reserve grades and the High Heelers win their game against the Fillies.
First up was the Ladies League Tag game that saw Bombala starting strong with Keiarna Rodwell back from injury scoring out wide for the Heelers.
According to onlookers the game was a tough battle with a number of penalties awarded as the game became quite physical.
A try from Cooma lass Jaime Thornton saw the Heelers head to the shed at half time trailing 6 to 4.
In the second half Georgie Clarke scored and captain Patrice Clear converted and Bombala was back in front 10 to 6.
Over the next 10 minutes the Fillies fought back hard, eventually edging back in front 10 to 12.
The day was saved when captain Patrice Clear weaved through defenders to score out wide putting Bombala just back in front 12-14.
Kayley Keavey outclassed defenders to seal the win for the High Heelers 12 to 18.
Players Player and three points to Patrice Clear, 2 points to Amy Stone and one point to Georgie Clark.
The first grade game didn’t disappoint as the two top teams battled it out for number one spot on the leader board.
It was Bombala that was first to score when Joe Bobbin forced himself over the line and the try was converted by Wame giving the Heelers an early lead 6-nil.
The Stallions spread the ball out wide and scored before an onslaught from Bombala put the Heelers in front and they headed to the sheds at half time with a confident lead 16 to 4.
In the second half the momentum shifted to the home team and various penalties allowed greater field possession and with the sheer strength and pace of Cooma’s centre, Karlos Filiga it wasn’t long before the Stallions were hot on the heels of Bombala 16-14.
Bombala scored again but Cooma was able to score two more unanswered tries before full time, snatching victory from Bombala’s grasp 26 to 22.
Players player and three points went to Luke Ingram, two points to Andrew Guthrie and one point to Tyler Jones.
The Bombala Reserves played a tightly contested game going down to Cooma 28 to 22.
Players player and three points to Ben Molloy, two point to Jakob Stewart and one point to Andrew Platts.
Next weekend the Bombala Club will head to Eden on Sunday, with everyone encouraged to make the trip down the mountain to cheer on Bombala.
