A GoFundMe page for 19-year-old Blake, of Eden who suffered severe burns to his upper body after an incident on Sunday morning, April 17, has already raised over $11,000.
The fundraiser was set up by Blake's friend Zak Kelly with the aim of raising $25,000. The friends had been out together just the night before, celebrating Zak's birthday.
He said he wanted to get the community behind Blake and show that the community was supporting him.
"He is currently in Sydney North Shore hospital and I would like to show my support to his family with this fundraiser to assist with the expenses for Blake and his recovery," Zak said.
"I am reaching out to the community as it would mean so much to have any donation, big or small, to help Blake's family."
Blake suffered second and third degree burns to 30 percent of his body at an incident in King Place, Eden. Four ambulance road crews responded to a phone call just before 7.30am.
He was taken to South East Regional Hospital in a serious but stable condition, before being flown to Royal North Shore burns unit in Sydney for further care.
Zak said that he had been told by the family that Blake was no longer in an induced coma.
"I was told he had opened one eye and can make yes and no nods and they're going to be taking the breathing tube out in the next couple of days," he said.
