Four years after she was rubbed out of the PyeongChang Olympics during practice before her debut, Coady has emerged as one of the stars of the Australian Games team.

The 21-year-old won bronze in her favoured slopestyle event last week and then finished ninth in the big air event, with Austrian Anna Gasser successfully defending her Olympic crown.

Gasser secured the biggest score of the day with a 95.50 for a double cork 1260 with a melon grab at the purpose-built jump, a regenerated former steel mill named Big Air Shougang in an industrial area of Beijing.

New Zealand Zoi Sadowski Synnott, who won gold in the slopestyle, had to settle for silver while 17-year-old Kokomo Murase finished in third.

Her Japanese teammate Reira Iwabuchi attempted a triple cork for the first time in women's Olympic competition, while Coady also pushed out of her comfort zone.

Coady was in third spot after the first round with an impressive score of 85.00 but bombed out of contention in the remaining two jumps as she attempted a backside 1060.

"The first one was really good - a front 10 and I didn't get one of those in practice so I was super happy to land that first run there," the 21-year-old said.

"And then in second and third run I tried back 10 and I've never done that one in comp before.

"I got super close to it on my second run and third run just fully missed it but all good - I knew to get a good result I was going to have to send it, so I had a crack.

"I put all my energy into slopestyle because it was pretty much what I was here for but I'm just so stoked to have made the finals (in big air) and just tried to make something I've never tried before."

Coady described her Olympic experience as "incredible" and while she planned to let her hair down when she returned home to Melbourne she was already eyeing what was ahead.

The next Games will be in Cortina, Italy, in 2026.

"My biggest takeaway is that hard work pays off - that's something this Olympics has shown me," Coady said.

"Making two finals is so big for me and I'm so incredibly stoked about that.

"I'm really keen when I reset to get back in to it and keep working hard.

"I love progressing in the sport, it's so exciting, and trying new tricks and scaring yourself - it's the best part of it."

The 17-year-old child actor-turned-rider followed up his unexpected silver in slopestyle - he would've taken gold if not for a judging blunder - by cementing his celebrity status with the big air title.

Mons Roisland of Norway claimed the silver and Max Parrot from Canada earned bronze.
