Congratulations to Merrily Bell of Tura Beach hooking her first ever gummy shark (flake) taken while anchored along the inside of the Horseshoe Reef south of Haycock. Fishing with strips of Australian salmon bait from Alan Wilkin's JACK 11, the gummy measured a very respectable 1205mm.

It's no secret but our local lakes - Wallagoot in particular - are having a bumper prawn run. Bag out catches up to 10 litres being reported from one and all.
Following the recent deluge and the opening of both Wallagoot Lake and Curalo Lagoon at Eden, what's in store for the next dark at the end of January is anybody's guess?
The flood of prawns out into the ocean from Wallagoot should see lots of activity south of Turingal Point and out from Bournda Island and out towards North Head at Eden. Australian salmon, flathead, gummies, snapper and morwong are all on notice.
Snapper and morwong remain about White Rock out of Kianniny and Long Point and Haycock out of Merimbula. There is no shortage of baitfish about the artificial reefs in Merimbula Bay with kingfish lurking.
From Eden try Boyds Tower reef. Good results from a paternoster rig and pilchard bait. There are also some sizeable ocean flathead at 35 fathoms off Saltwater south of Mowarry.
Australian salmon are coming from the beaches. Try Dolphin Cove, Tura Beach, Haycock and Aslings
Luderick and squid are patchy off the Merimbula Wharf, though there are swarms of trevally and some good Australian salmon together with kingfish passing. For the trevally; soft plastics are working well everything from the good old Nuclear Chicken to 8cm Minnow Smelts.
For trevally and luderick try the Spencer Park jetty on the run out. Artificial weed is working for the luderick and soft plastics for the trevally plus the occasional bream and dusky flathead.
Congratulations to Lisa Oldham, fishing from Corey Walker's ICEMAN near the Spencer Park jetty, who landed a magnificent 490mm trevally using pilchard bait. At the same spot Lisa also landed a lovely 700mm dusky flathead and Corey lost his battle with a large kingfish.
In Pambula Lake where we may all fish, bream, trevally and dusky flathead are taking both pilchard baits, pumped nippers and soft plastics. There remain a few Australian salmon and tailor attracted to trolled soft plastics.
The Bega River is virtually flooded with its waters muddy and with lots of debris. Try at Mogereeka near the entrance for dusky flathead, bream, trevally, tailor and salmon. Best on the run in.
