With a heavy heart I put the phone down. That was my last option and it was another "No, sorry".

With recent difficulties and uncertainty, many of the businesses running sideshows and kids entertainment, jumping castles or face painting all had been booked or closed down.
As a small community based event running on a tight budget of donations and volunteers I was out of options.
I do my best to source as much free entertainment for the kids as I can get. Club Bega is always generous, but this year there were limited options and we were out of time.
That same afternoon early in October I headed to my daughter's Gumnut Guide Session and we joined in another afternoon of friendship, ceremony and activities but Magpie (group leader Sarah- Marie Sweeney) noticed I was a little quiet.
I outlined the Tarraganda Community Carols night and that this year I would have to wind back and do the best I could with what I had.
Her eyes lit up and she said "Mmm yeah maybe" and left it at that.
Fast forward three weeks - it was the beginning of November and by now everything for carols night is usually locked in.
After our Tuesday Gumnuts Guides Session, Magpie tells me she informed the senior Guide leaders about my concerns and they thought they could help out!.
You could imagine my excitement.
In the weeks that followed a delightful map of free kids activities, craft and prizes was laid out courtesy of our local Girl Guides.
As part of their community engagement programs, the Girl Guides are encouraged to volunteer and show leadership in ways that help the community.
Tarraganda carols night has always been a partnership between Tarraganda locals, the Country Club and CanAssist Bega Branch as a fundraiser for CanAssist since the night's beginning five years ago.
This year the inclusion of the Girl Guides in this community event is a delightful addition to keep the kids entertained as we come together as a community to celebrate the joy of Christmas at a time when we so very much need it.
Head along and join in the Tarraganda Community Carols night at the Bega Country Club, 5.30pm Sunday December 19. BYO chairs and delight in community event on the Tarraganda greens.
