Poor offshore conditions have been keeping game anglers in port. Although yellowfin and southern bluefin tuna as well as albacore are active, inclement weather has curtailed offshore game fishing.

Last Tuesday we received a photograph showing a large shoal of Australian salmon merging through the bar into Merimbula Lake. Some hundreds of meters long and the colour and width of a highway - what a sight! Naturally salmon plus trevally, bream, whiting and dusky flathead are active in the Merimbula Lake channel as well as the Top Lake where kingfish are also reported.
Congratulations to visitor Ros Thompson of Murrembeena Victoria who caught a lovely 420mm King George whiting fishing from a boat a few hundred metres directly off the Merimbula Wharf Restaurant. Not a common fish for these waters but apparently gathered past the bar feeding on local prawns.
A report from Andrew Badullovich fishing in Merimbula Lake on Saturday tells us the conditions weren't great; however, the flathead were certainly active! Andrew used a Samaki Vibalicous (soft - vibe) lure, and found the bulk of the duskys along the drop-offs, where the ribbon weed converged with the sand bottom strata. All fish were caught on the rising tide, and all released in great condition.
Last but not least luderick are now on the chew, try the Spencer Park jetty on the run out tide. Artificial lures are effective. Prawns should be running tonight through to the weekend. Dust off your nets and have a go.
In Pambula Lake lots of good size bream, trevally and tailor are taking both pilchard baits and soft plastics. Good results from among the oyster leases using Bassday sugapen surface lures. Also good results from the deeper holes which remain salty while above the water is more fresh from recent rains.
In the Bega River try the deeper areas up from Thompsons and just down from the islands for bream and flathead. Lower down the river best results for dusky flathead and bream come from near the entrance at Mogareeka.
