Members chanted "Hainer out" as they voiced their displeasure with club president Herbert Hainer, and chants of "we are Bayern and you are not" and "we are the fans you don't want" were also heard.

A stone-faced former president Uli Hoeness left the podium without a word amid the upheaval after Hainer had abruptly ended the meeting.

"This was the worst event I have ever seen at Bayern," Hoeness told Kicker sports magazine.

Fans have long been critical of the Qatar deal because of the 2022 World Cup host's human rights record, and tensions flared after a harmonious beginning of the meeting.

A spontaneous motion from member Michael Ott to put the issue on the agenda was dismissed.

"The relationship between Bayern and many of its fans continues to crumble," Ott told the broadcaster Sport1 on Friday, but he added the atmosphere "was all extremely unsavoury, also towards other members with verbal contributions."

Club leaders cited a court ruling from earlier in the day that confirmed Bayern did not have to have it on the agenda, and said the 780 members present (with no more allowed owing to coronavirus measures) were not representative of Bayern's overall membership of more than 290,000.

Hainer said Bayern will fulfil the Qatar Airways deal until 2023 with no decision on a renewal yet. Chairman Oliver Kahn said that dialogue with Qatar was better than excluding it.

Another motion from Ott, under which the club should keep 75 per cent of its shares and not sell another five per cent, missed the required majority, before the meeting ended on a sour note.
