Organiser at Bega, Rod McDonald was enthusiastic about the program which they had run twice before.
"But that was in term 4 so there's been nothing since last year, Normally it would have started by now and will be a six week program. It's usually $100 per person but we got a grant," he said.
That means there's nothing to pay for the 45 kids who will be playing at George Griffin Oval, Bega.
"This is very much an introductory program with fun, skill-based games. It's about hand eye co-ordination and all takes place in small groups," McDonald said.
Nick Holloway, cricket manager, South Coast/Snowy Mountains said it had been an incredible effort by the Bega Club to have 45 kids signed up to play cricket for the first time.
"Rod McDonald deserves a tremendous amount of recognition for his role in growing the Bega/Angledale Cricket Club. They have over 90 junior players this season (aged 5-18) which is quite remarkable for a regional cricket club. An example of the community spirit on show at this club is the under 15s players helping out with the coaching of the Woolworths Blast Program," Holloway said.
The program is due to start Friday, November 12 but there are concerns about the weather and McDonald said they would be keeping everyone posted on Facebook and email.
The 20/20 senior comp is due to start on Saturday, November 13 with 10 A grade teams and six B grade teams. "Over 16s need to be double vaxxed to play or be a spectator and all coaches are double vaxxed," McDonald said.
The junior comp starts on November 20 for the U11, U13 and U15 teams.
The Woolworths Cricket Blast Program will also include Tathra, Eden, Merimbula and Narooma.
