At 9.30am on Thursday morning the Transport Management Centre said it was expected to remain this way while the extensive truck salvage and clean-up operation was completed.
Light vehicles are diverting via Nethercote Road between Greigs Flat and Eden but this diversion is not suitable for heavy vehicles as there is still an unsealed section of Nethercote Road.
Heavy vehicles are being parked up until the highway reopens.
Motorists are advised to follow directions of emergency services and traffic crews and allow plenty of extra travel time.
