Following the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian's announcement on Saturday chief operating officer Damien Israel said UOW's Sydney CBD and Southern Sydney (Loftus) campuses will be closed until further notice in accordance with the stay-at-home restrictions while the Wollongong, Innovation and South Western Sydney (Liverpool) campuses remain open for essential work and education. That includes the Wollongong Campus Library which remains open with reduced capacity to allow for social distancing.
Student residences remain open, but the same stay-at-home orders apply as to any other Wollongong residence. Student residence staff are providing students with further information and assistance.
All Wollongong Campus eateries will be closed, but the IGA supermarket on campus will remain open to enable the purchase of food and essential items.
The Early Start Discovery Space, Science Space and UniActive facilities are closed until further notice.
Staff are being asked to work from home wherever possible and any classes or assessments scheduled for the period of the stay-at-home orders will revert to online mode, unless it is essential for them to be conducted on campus.
Students and staff attending campuses have been reminded to wear masks and maintain social distancing and observe room capacity limits while on campus, in keeping with NSW Health guidance.
The Southern Highlands, Shoalhaven, Batemans Bay and Bega campuses remain open, but masks are required to be worn in all indoor spaces, unless the person is alone in a room. Capacity limits of one person per four square metres apply in all rooms.
"UOW remains committed to applying all NSW Health orders and guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic to protect the health and safety of our students, staff and the community," Mr Israel said.
"We look forward to these restrictions being lifted as soon as it is considered safe to do so, at which time we will resume our efforts to restore the vibrant campus life for which UOW is renowned as soon as we can safely do so."
