At Marconi Stadium, Norm Boardman's first grade outfit went down 5-nil to the Stallions - thanks to goals from Hannah Voloder, Erin-Leah Tavares, Tania Baban, Talie Walton and Christa Oliva.
The Ison Park-based club had a better showing in reserve grade.
Behind goals from Claire Scott and Shaylee Meehan, the visitors raced to a 2-nil at the break.
But the hosts lifted in the second half and managed to strike three times through Angelique Lynch (twice) and Montana Bolzan, to secure a tight 3-2 win.
In the under 17s, Wayne Paton's Phoenix went down 2-nil, while Brittany Anderson's under 15s outfit lost 4-1.
The final match of the day saw Zoe Anderson's under 14s squad suffer a 2-nil defeat to Marconi.
Next round, all five Phoenix teams have the bye before the club heads to Pluim Park to face the Central Coast Mariners - kicking off at 8.30am with the under 14s clash before the under 15s (9.55am), under 17s (11.25am), reserve grade (1.05pm) and first grade (3pm) take to the field.
