An evening to bring people together again in the quiet of winter was inspired by childhood memories of Bega's main street being closed off for Christmas shopping in the '90s.

Jessica Dwyer, co-owner of The Hub, decided she would try to create a lively night in Bega by bringing together local businesses to stay open on May 6, just before Mother's Day.
"When I grew up in Bega, they'd close of the main street around Christmas time and the whole place would become alive, there would be a massive buzz," Ms Dwyer said.
So far the businesses and eateries on board to stay open include:
- Peanut Eatery
- Wattle & Hide Homewares
- Ellie Maes Cafe
- Green Queen
- Sugar Sounds
- Fleur De Lis Nails
- Valley Gifts & Toys
- The Beauty Parlour
- The Bega Valley Market Place
- Bega Regional Gallery
- Jenna's Hair Boutique
- The Hub
While this will be the first attempt to get Bega stores to open up late, it won't be the first time the store has held a night of late night shopping for Mother's day.
Situated in the main street of Bega, The Hub has been running annual late night shopping in store for a few years (except in 2020, due to COVID-19).
"This year with there being so much happening and new businesses opening in Bega, we thought why not inject a little bit of buzz into Bega in the middle of winter when we all need it," she said.
There will be musicians playing in the street such as Bega's local sensation Felicity Dowd, who will be busking on the night.
Ms Dwyer is on the lookout for other artists interested in playing. To get in contact phone 64 920 898, hello@thehubhometrader.com.au, or stop by The Hub.
"I think it would be really amazing if we had musicians all up the street and make it a real buzzing time."
Ms Dwyer is also excited to have North of Eden Gin set up a small sampling stand in The Hub on the night.
"It is very exciting, we've been trying to organise a night with them for over a year but COVID kept putting it off."
Dwyer's long term goal is to turn the main street alive with food trucks, live music and an event to bring everyone together to shop for events like Mother Day and Christmas.
"If we can make this night a success then it will be something that everyone would like to be involved with in the future."
Alexis Creary owner of the Commercial Pub in Bega and of new store The Publicans Wife, said she's looking forward to the night.
"I'm excited to see Bega coming alive again and it's a great night to support local businesses," Ms Creary said.
Other Bega businesses are encouraged by Ms Dwyer to reach out and join in on the night, the late night shopping will run from 5 until 7pm on Thursday May 6.
