Great story on Eden and the visit of national/international trail bike officials. Would be great if they went elsewhere, especially Tathra/Kalaru. We should (are you listening council?) be promoting the whole Valley as the Aussie mainland go-to place for biking.

Utmost importance
South East NSW deserves to have the vaccine available as it is planned for elsewhere in NSW. Our health workers are of the utmost importance to residents and shouldn't have to travel to Canberra to receive the vaccine.

Outrageous idea
Having just read yesterday I was shocked that staff in the Bega valley would have to go to Canberra for their 1a COVID shot which I thought was disgraceful. Now they're being told they must go to Liverpool. Whose hair brained idea was this?
This is outrageous, these are frontline staff, probably working multiple shifts because there isn't enough qualified health care staff in the system and now there being moved away from where they're needed most. Who pays for travel and accommodation and what's the opportunity cost to the patients who are now being compromised by even shorter staff availability? This is truly outrageous.

Editor's note: Thanks to everyone who wrote in on this subject. Thankfully, after publishing those concerns, the news has since arrived that vaccinations will be made available at South East Regional Hospital Bega to frontline health workers. It's understood those vaccinations will begin next week, as will vaccinations for our aged care sector during the phase 1A rollout.
Clarification around access
Regarding access at Pambula Beach Surf Club precinct. I would like to put straight some comments made on this topic in the MNW of February 10.
I am a huge advocate for improved access for all across the shire. All the evidence and data indicates that our community is ageing and we will increasingly need better access to shops, community facilities and to recreation facilities. In relation to the Pambula Beach project, it is not an "access stuffup" as was described in the MNW article. It was a compromise made during the course of the build that resulted in a less than perfect outcome.
I absolutely know the constraints of dollars on projects. It would just be good to have a consultation process that engaged with those who are most likely to be impacted by such compromises. Council is getting up to speed on access, I just want to help them accelerate!

Advocating for vulnerable
Thank you Kristy for once again advocating for the vulnerable people in your electorate. Access to health care in Australia should be equitable and accessible to all.
This community has been impacted by an unprecedented disaster on top of COVID. It is essential that this is acknowledged and proactive steps are made to protect our communities from COVID to enable community connection events which are demonstrated to be effective in the recovery from bushfires. The South Coast has taken a bigger economic hit than urban locations and should be prioritised. There is increased risks and costs associated with the provision of mental health care to the South Coast.
