Club president Rob Schroeder said adapting to a brag-mat photo format had unforseen benefits as the club looked to tackle uncertainty around border closures and the COVID-19 situation.
"The big challenge we faced this year was the COVID conditions and we wanted to prepare in case people were unable to come into the club rooms."
Biggest fish winners will this year be measured by brag mat photo entries and there are plenty of prizes on offer for the target species in the March competition.
"And then we've got about $20,000 of cash prizes for the different species."
Mr Schroeder said the club will still post the leader board at the club room, but given the digital shift for entries, competitors will also be able to keep track of the leaders in real time via the website.
"They used to have to ring us or come in to look at the leaderboard, but now on the website you can track it in real time," he said.
Provided you have internet access via your phone or tablet, you can quite literally be out on the water and see if your entry is leading a class or if you've had a catch that could see you tip the leaderboard.
The move has been widely well-received, particularly by visiting anglers or those who prefer to fish closer to home in the waters off Tathra, Merimbula or Mallacoota.
This has been a particular boon for those who like to launch out of Kianinny with the geographic area for the competition extending to the Bega River.
Mr Schroeder said officials were mindful of the ever-changing border situation, but even if borders were to close again, the digital nature of the competition meant Victorians could still take part in the waters off Mallacoota.
Even those just eyeing off a new boat as the major prize can sign up without ever catching a fish.
A stunning centre-console Mad Dog boat decked out with a Honda outboard and Garmin electronics will headline as the major prize as a lucky draw for all entrants.
:"You don't have to the biggest or best fish, it's just your entry, once you're registered in the comp, you're automatically in the draw," Mr Schroeder said.
"It's the best boat we've had by a long shot, it's spectacular."
He said the club were hopeful of strong entries after they had been able to take the boat around on a bit of a roadshow to showcase it to potential entrants throughout the Bega Valley.
"That's been able to give good exposure to our sponsors that way, we've been able to take it on a bit of a roadshow to Mallacoota, Bombala, Merimbula and Tathra." Entries are open at www.edenfishingclub.org.
