Warren Anthony Scott, then aged 36, was charged with murdering Edward Carter, 49, on April 4, 2019 at an Eden home.
In the NSW Supreme Court on Friday, Scott pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter.
The Crown did not accept the plea to the less serious charge which was made on the grounds of substantial impairment.
Justice Robert Allan Hulme set the trial down in Sydney to begin on August 23.
