Conditions continue to favour deep drop angling.
Morwong have arced up all along the coast during the December prawn run with little doubt this is one of their favourite foods! There have been some great morwong catches from the Merimbula Fishing Platform near the Merimbula Lake entrance.
There are also good morwong at the Pinnacle north of Kianniny, at Haycock and at Eden near North Head and Middle Head
As weather permits snapper are back on the chew at our local reefs, good catches report from all along the coast from Goalen Head, past Tathra, White Rock, Long Point, Haycock and south to Lennards and Boyds Tower. Some lovely gummy shark have also been landed off Haycock Beach from the inside of the Horseshoe Reef.
Local and visiting boaters are urged to be cautious at the exit and entry to Merimbula Lake.
Luderick runs have started at the Merimbula Fishing platform with warming waters bringing good whiting.
The channels at Merimbula and Pambula are increasingly productive for bream, dusky flathead, tailor and trevally.
For dusky flathead the DPI rules that they must be over 36cm to be legal and only one fish over 70cm may be kept. We recommend dusky flathead are truly a catch and release only species.
The Bega River remains open and has cleared nicely. There are good tailor and Australian salmon. Similarly in the Merimbula channel between the bridge and the entrance. Good estuary perch are in the Bega River down to Thompsons. With river temps up to 21 degrees dusky flathead and bream are well on the chew and some good size fish reported.
The December prawn run has just about finished and we can report some lovely prawns from both Merimbula Lake and Bega River. Get your lights and nets ready for the next run in early January. Best time is during the dark of the moon and a run out tide.
