Bega Valley Shire Council's library services co-ordinator Megan Jordan-Jones says the ever-popular Kids Summer Reading Club kicked off earlier than usual, at the start of December, but it is never too late to join in the fun.

"The reading program is all about encouraging kids, and adults alike, to love reading," Ms Jordan-Jones said.

"We have weekly prizes for the kids in all three age categories (0-7, 8-11 and 12-18) and a major prize - a Samsung tablet - to be won by one dedicated young reader at the end of the summer program.

"This is the first year the libraries have run an adults reading club alongside the kids challenge so we're looking forward to seeing lots of grown-ups rise to the challenge and compete for a wonderful major prize of a dinner for two at the Merimbula Wharf Restaurant."

Also on the Summer program are art and sustainability classes for kids and adults, with lessons in making beeswax wraps, upcycling waste items and drawing.

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities for young and old include podcasting, making your own website, Electrodough - creating shapes and sculptures using conductive dough that are brought to life with light and sound - and Makey Makey invention kit activities.

Other activities for all ages include fly-tying for saltwater and freshwater fly-fishing and writing workshops with a bushfire recovery focus.
