Originally from Perth, Ms Mottram has worked all over the world, including being the ABC correspondent in the Middle East and Moscow, and has been presenting PM for almost three years, out of both the Sydney and Gosford studios.
"We've never been a family that sits still for too long. We've travelled the world to work and just on a whim," Ms Mottram said.
"Our family has South Coast history from way back and there has been a real pull. Planting PM in a regional centre will also bring deeper understanding of rural communities and ties to their stories."
Ms Mottram will also present Saturday AM from Bega.
Meanwhile, a familiar face will be joining the local ABC South East team next week - with Paul West jumping behind the microphone for the breakfast shift.
The popular chef from Tasmania will host the breakfast program from November 30 until Christmas Eve, on air from 6.30am.
Mr West first came to the South East to host the popular SBS program River Cottage Australia and he now works on a variety of shows for the ABC including Backroads and Catalyst: The Great Australian Bee Challenge. He's even filled in for Ian 'Macca' McNamara on the national ABC radio program Australia All Over.
The usual team on breakfast, presenter Simon Lauder and producer Jen Hunt are set for a sleep in through December when they instead present the NSW program Statewide Drive for the month.
With the departure of long-time presenter Fiona Wyllie, the program has been travelling around the state for the past few months, and December will be the South East team's turn before a permanent host is announced in the new year.
"We're really looking forward to talking to our listeners in the afternoons and hoping to delve deeper into the statewide issues that affect all of us in our region," Mr Lauder said.
The South East team takes over Statewide Drive on Monday, November 30, from 2.55pm weekdays.
You can listen to PM Monday to Friday at 5pm on Radio National, and 6.30pm on ABC South East NSW, and Saturday AM at 8am on ABC South East.
