Last year it was revealed that cricketers had the highest rate of suicide among sports people in Australia and the R U OK? cricket day was spawned by the Kameruka Black Cockatoos club to reduce stigma around mental health and open up conversations between team-mates and support networks.
Building on the wonderful response to last year's event, the Kameruka Black Cockatoos club will this year welcome Far South Coast Invitational squads for women's and men's games.
"It will promote the chance to catch up with friends and family and ask the question, R U OK?," said mental health advocate Glenn Cotter.
Mr Cotter said now more than ever was a critical time to check up on mates given the bushfires and COVID-19.
"With the ongoing drain on all in the Bega Valley and surrounding regions we can't think of anything better for the soul than a good day out with family and friends, have a barbecue and a drink and watch some great cricket at the historic Lord's View Oval at Kameruka Estate," Mr Cotter said.
The Community Cricket Day is a Kameruka Cricket Club initiative with the backing of the Far South Coast Cricket Association and the proud support of Cricket ACT and Cricket NSW.
The day will run with thanks to the supporters Bega Cheese, R U Ok?, Black Dog Institue, The Rural Adversity Mental Health Program and the Sydney Thunder Community.
Club spokesman Joe Weller said there would be guest speakers on mental health, as well as novelty events to build a family atmosphere.
There will be a jumping castle for the kids, as well as a visit from the Rural Fire Service and everyone is encouraged to wind up their bowling arm for a pace-bowl challenge.
Entry is by gold coin donation with the club observing COVID-19 safety measures and registrations at the entry via West Kameruka Road.
The Cockatoos are encouraging everyone to bring a camp chair or picnic rug to make the most of two fun social rounds.
A women's T20 clash will run at 9.45am with the men's game at 1pm. Gates open from 9am.
