From Cathy Freeman's 400m final in her bodysuit to Eric the Eel taking on an Olympic pool for the first time - and in budgie smugglers no less - or how about Jane Saville disqualified 100 metres from the finish line in the 20km walk. There are so many moments that stick in our minds as clear as if it were yesterday.
Also surely still vivid in many minds would be the Olympic Torch Relay and the many Bega Valley locals who had an opportunity to run with it as the epic global journey arrived on the Far South Coast.
September 8 marks 20 years to the day the torch relay passed through each of our towns on its way to a ceremonial cauldron lighting at the Bega Recreation Ground.
