Acting Sergeant Brad Ross from Bega Highway Patrol said his officers will be using the operation as a reminder to everyone - motorists and pedestrians - of the rules and safety needs around our district's schools.
He said the Bega officers from NSW Police Traffic and Highway Command will be checking in on Bega, Merimbula, Pambula Beach and Eden school zones.
They will be starting from Friday, August 7, looking particularly at speed and adherence to the 40kmh limits, correct seatbelt and restraint use and mobile phone use.
It's not just checking up on driver behaviour however.
They will also be keeping an eye on pedestrian behaviour around the school zones, and making sure children are crossing the roads safely as well as alighting from vehicles in a safe manner.
"It's not all about enforcement, but a reminder for everybody to stay in line with the rules and providing a safe environment for everyone," Acting Sergeant Ross said.
