The presentation was made to Mr Hammerton at the club's deferred AGM, after what club officials said had been a 'disrupted season'. Officials said they were delighted to make formal recognition of Gerry's outstanding contribution to the club and the game of bowls in general.
On the green, Gerry has figured prominently in pennant fixtures, special events, tournaments and numerous Club championship, enjoying regular success.
However, club-mates said he also had 27 years of service and promotion to the sport, firstly in Bega and then the past 11 years with Bermagui, including nine as secretary and a frequent team manager. He has also been a delegate and office bearer at district level of Bowls NSW for a total of 18 years.
Gerry has been a cheerful coach to new starters, while he and wife Lori are also well respected for their community work, particularly with Can Assist.
