An online program on growing truffles aims to make Bega Valley farms more viable into the future, its organisers have said.

Fiona Kotvojs and Alan Burdon established a trufferie (truffle orchard) in 2013 hoping to prove that this would be a viable crop for this area.
Six years on they have proved that truffles do grow well on the Far South Coast, and it is a commercially viable crop.
They have established an export market in the USA that can absorb what this region can produce.
Dr Kotvojs and Mr Burdon said their vision was that this may help make farms in their area more viable in the long-term.
Cultivating truffles successfully requires a level of understanding and so Dr Kotvojs has organised for Australia's leading experts in truffles to deliver training.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions this will comprise an online seminar program set up as a four episode program for viewing in your own time and place.
It contains heaps of videos, interviews and comments from nine industry people and is up-to-date and current info:
- Episode 1 - Understanding truffles
- Episode 2 - Establishing and setting up a truffiere
- Episode 3 - Truffiere management
- Episode 4 - Harvesting and marketing

An additional zoom session with the expert team to answer your questions will be held on August 21 and a visit to Dr Kotvojs' and Mr Burdon's trufferie is on August 22 to see it all in practice, including a truffle hunt.
