While the 38-year-old had only received two charges when his case was first mentioned in court last month, in Bega Local Court on Tuesday, July 28 it was confirmed he now faces a total of seven charges of possess/control child abuse material using carriage service, as well as two charges of possess child abuse material with intent to breach.
He appeared in the courtroom on Tuesday, unshaven and wearing grey pants and a grey jumper, and is yet to enter pleas.
Magistrate Doug Dick summarised what occurred the last time the matter appeared in court; the man's computers were to be examined and the police prosecutor at the time anticipated more charges would be filed due to that examination.
He confirmed the fresh charges were served on Tuesday.
"These matters carry very heavy penalties, penalties that are outside my jurisdiction," Magistrate Dick told the court.
"It won't be determined in a local court, it will be determined in a district court down the track."
The man appeared to be confused about who his defence lawyer would be for the case.
During the case's mention in court Magistrate Dick stated the man "doesn't have a solicitor" and asked the court's duty solicitor to discuss the matter with the accused.
Magistrate Dick said the nine charges would be prosecuted by the Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions and adjourned the matter to September 29, with bail to continue.
Under the charges the Bega man faces a maximum penalty of 10 years' prison.
