A Flood Watch reported by the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) stated from Monday into Tuesday rainfall associated with a low pressure system has the potential to cause local and minor riverine flooding across NSW South Coast catchments, with minor flooding at the Bega River.

BOM stated the weather system is expected to cause flooding for the catchments from late Monday onwards.

Beginning this weekend, it is the second time this month the Bega Valley has been hit by heavy rains, impacting on waterways.

By 10am on Monday, the Bega River was at 2.16metres in height at Bega North, which was below the flood level but still rising, BOM recorded.

At Kanoona the Bega River was 3.2m, the Brogo River was 3.73m at Angledale and the Bemboka River was 2.1m at Morans Crossing.

Wallaga Lake was 1.14m by 10am on Monday, while on July 17 it was 0.684m.

Bega Valley Shire Council has previously said the trigger point for opening Wallaga Lake is 1.25m or between 1.1m and 1.25m for three months.

By Monday morning the Pambula River, measured at Lochiel, was 1.3m.

In Bombala, the Bombala River was at 1.7m and under the flood level but still rising.

This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.

Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers for which the Bureau of Meteorology provides a flood warning service.

Severe Weather Warnings will be issued or updated if very heavy rain is forecast or observed.
