Council said water across the road between the Tathra Beach Country Club and the northern end of Handcocks Bridge at Mogareeka has forced the closure.

They said detours are in place at the Doctor George Mountain Rd and Tathra-Bermagui Rd intersection at Tanja.

"It is not safe to enter flood water. do not ride, drive, walk or play in flood waters," council said.

"Travel with extreme caution today, obey any road signage and follow the advice of emergency services."
