A NSW Police spokesperson said about 1am a police vehicle attached to South Coast Police District was travelling north along the Princes Hwy between Eden and Pambula.
The spokesperson said a Toyota Prado heading south allegedly lost control and overturned, colliding head-on with the police vehicle near the intersection of Hardakers Rd, Broadwater.
The driver of the Toyota, a 42-year-old woman, suffered a laceration to her arm and was taken to the South East Regional Hospital along with two passengers, a 22-year-old man and a four-year-old girl, for observation, the police spokesperson said.
The driver and sole occupant of the police vehicle, a male senior constable, suffered a head injury and was taken to the Bega hospital where he was in a stable condition.
The Princes Hwy was closed at Broadwater due to the incident, but diversions are available:
- Light vehicles via Nethercote Rd, but this is unsuitable for heavy vehicles.
- Heavy vehicles can detour via Imlay Rd, Monaro Hwy and Snowy Mountains Hwy in both directions.
A crime scene was established with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attending to assist and an investigation began into the circumstance surrounding the crash.
