Meanwhile, registrations closed for the Far South Coast Hockey Association draw with games also to go ahead from this weekend.
Around 500 seniors are expected to take the plunge for the opening round of Aussie rules with a four-strong first division contest, and a further six teams in the reserve grade draw, while the ladies calendar welcomes seven outfits vying for the 2020 premiership.
Numbers in the junior divisions are also looking strong with five teams to contest the under 16s boys, while youth age groups are running in mixed competitions.
The under 14s are another strong suit with seven teams in the contest, while the mixed 12s and under 10s introduce a further six teams each into the lot.
The season will run for eight weeks with regular home and away matches to finish up on September 5 before a finals series.
At the Valley Fields, the hockey association has been able to adapt to a mixed social competition after expectations were to not get a competition off the ground this season.
The club will have mixed seniors and juniors draws as well as the HookIn2Hockey development program running.
With other codes forced to suspend their season, Aussie rules and hockey are likely to stand up as two of the very few sports that go ahead over the winter period.
On the Aussie rules field, Narooma, Tathra, Pambula and Merimbula will form the mainstays of the competition with all four clubs fielding a team in each of the senior grades and a majority of the junior grades as well.
The Wyndham Wedgies also return to the fold under the banner of the Panthers in the reserve grade competition, with officials saying they were a welcome addition to the SCAFL season.
Both sporting codes have also worked closely with their governing bodies to go ahead in COVID-19-safe manner, but are excited to get the season underway with the recent news that fans will be allowed to attend games.
As of Wednesday, July 1, the state government green-lit up to 500 participants at community sports activities - modifying the previous rule which allowed up to 25 per cent of ground capacity at an outside venue.
"The community has worked incredibly hard over the past few months which has allowed us to be where we are today," NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
"However we can't let our guard down.
"People need to come forward for testing with the mildest of symptoms and practise good hand hygiene and social distancing."
Hockey matches will run at the competition's regular home ground of the Bega Valley Fieldds, while Sapphire Coast AFL matches will be held across varying grounds with both to go ahead on Saturday.
