On Friday, a spokesperson for the Southern NSW Local Health District said its staff had seen some "wonderful acts of kindness and support" from the community during the pandemic.
But, unfortunately, there had also been "a number of incidents of swearing and aggressive language" towards the local health district's staff on the phone service and at the COVID-19 testing clinic at South East Regional Hospital, they said.
"We understand people may be anxious and frustrated - we deal with these feelings in the community every day - however abuse towards our staff will not be tolerated," the spokesperson said.
"These people are performing a vital service to the health and wellbeing of the community, with some standing outside in all weather conditions in full personal protective equipment (PPE), as we deal with an increase in people presenting for testing.
"Abuse is unacceptable at any time, and particularly when health care workers are doing their best to support their communities through this difficult time.
"We are very appreciative of the efforts of all of our staff who are putting themselves at risk on the front line to keep our facilities and communities safe."
