From current meteorological information the low is expected to start forming late on Monday, July 13 and will deepen and intensify from Monday night and into Tuesday.
"This could be a very deep low with winds of 80-100km," Mr Luke said.
"That is almost cyclonic, category 1 or 2," he said.
"I'm expecting to see big seas with this of maybe 10m waves which could certainly cause problems for coastal areas and boats that are moored," he said.
Mr Luke said that originally the system was looking as though it would be further north but was starting to move south as it developed.
Unfortunately he is not sure that there will be significant amounts of rain given the high winds expected.
