Where are they?
I have lived in the Eden-Monaro electorate for over 20 years. During that time I have never had any political candidate or their representative introduce themselves to me. I have however met numerous Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses and many solar firms sales representatives!

Fair dinkum
I do not have a problem at all with the $75 a week rise in welfare payments for the "newly unemployed. I do however have a huge problem with the fact once again pensioners were not offered a cent.
Us pensioners payed taxes all our life and our work ethic made this the lucky country.
I am sick to death of politicians of all parties that every so often give us about a $10 a fortnight pay rise then run around beating their chests about how generous they are. Ten dollars these days buys a couple of cups of coffee or a cheap tray of sausages. It doesn't help at all with rent, food, bills, fuel or the day out you can afford every so often if you are very lucky. The coronavirus lock in for over 70 year olds didn't affect us much. It was like every other day on the pension.
How come nothing ever happens to the exorbitant salaries, benefits and pensions of all these politicians our taxes give a life of luxury to? I would really like to know if the parents of politicians live on the same meager benefits as the rest of us pensioners. I doubt it. How many of them including the PM took pay cuts? None that I know of.
Politicians are like nappies and need to be changed often for the same reason.

Candidate congratulated
Well done Kristy McBain for her gutsy win, certain people have been implying that Labor was not travelling well at the moment. It was a huge achievement for the Labor Party to retain such a marginal seat after losing such a popular local member in Mike Kelly, and at a time when the Coalition government is riding a wave of popularity due to the COVID-19 pandemic, (they should have won in a canter).
Labor's win was a massive blow to Scott Morrison, who threw everything into yet another hard sell marketing campaign including some well-timed dog whistling on defence. Conservative apparatchik along with the Murdoch media, were up to their usual dirty tricks trying to discredit Kristy McBain, to divert attention away from the real issues, like lack of real action on climate change. Anthony Albaneses leadership has now received a huge boost, and after this dismal failure, Scott Morrison's leadership will be under even more scrutiny.
The deep divisions existing within the Coalition were again laid bare for all to see with the vicious infighting between the Liberal and National parties. As Albo stated the last thing Australians need is another climate denier in the federal parliament, Australia is in desperate need of a real energy policy and minister.

Recognising WW2 veterans
On August 15 we will pause to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, Victory in Pacific Day, ending a war that cost millions of lives across the world. The Department of Veterans' Affairs is producing a Commemorative Medallion and Certificate of Commemoration for the remaining living veterans of the Second World War. The Australian-made medallion will be presented in a display case and is a small memento for our veterans. I invite eligible veterans to apply, or their families on their behalf, either online at www.dva.gov.au/medallion or, for those without internet access, by phone on 02 61918217 during business hours. Medallions will be distributed during August.
