Members congratulated Wolumla's Ross Cooper who landed a 52.5Kg fish on Seamode captained by Paul Jones of Merimbula.
Bournda captain Nigel Hack on his boat the White Knight also landed a great catch with a 32.5 kilogram yellowfin on a solo fishing trip.
In the same area other vessels took large albacore tuna up to 15kg.
With the weather holding steady, anglers are reporting good snapper off the usual reefs; Long Point, Haycock, Lennards and Boyds Tower.
Port Jackson sharks are not uncommon in the snapper grounds and luckily chinamen leatherjackets are down to reasonable numbers. Ocean flathead are best in the deeper waters off Tura Headland, try 20-22 fathoms.
For those closer to shore, the estuaries are improving with some good dusky flathead on the chew, particularly at Mogareeka since the Bega River closed. Intrepid anglers are gathering again to seek out the metre or longer duskies. However, the club strongly urges all flatheads of breeding size be returned to the water.
Tailor are very active in the Merimbula Top Lake and a few bream and trevally remain on the bite. Australian salmon remain in the lower reaches of the Pambula Lake.
To perk up the youngsters over the holiday break, the Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club, in conjunction with Tackleworld Merimbula, is holding a winter school holidays fishing competition.
There will be a prize pool of $400 and the competition is open to all angling juniors under 16 as of July 18.
Eligible species are flathead, bream, trevally, tailor and Australian salmon. No registration is required and the competition is open to all comers, both club members and visitors.
The competition will run from 6.30am this Saturday until 3pm Saturday 18 July. All awards are based on a length photograph taken on a DPI brag mat and a completed Record Slip. Record Slips and brag matts available at Tackleworld Merimbula. Full details from the Club's Website www.mbglac.com.au.
