IT WAS through the efforts of the Country Women Association (CWA) that this baby health care clinic was established, and it is only by providing the CWA with the necessary funds to carry on that it can be maintained and retained.
By now, every nursing mother in the town and district must realise what the clinic means to the health of the community, and it is, therefore, necessary to support the CWA rodeo and gymkhana wholeheartedly in order to provide the funds to carry on.
Another branch of the CWA is the teaching of handicrafts.
This service is given free of charge to all members, and during this war it has been the means of bringing many a nerve-wrecked soldier back to health.
It is through the efforts of the CWA organisers and demonstrators that the Red Cross ladies were taught these handicrafts, and these ladies in turn visited the sick and wounded servicemen in hospital.
And now a word about civilian efforts.
When an ambulance was first established in Bega, the CWA undertook to help set it up with linen and blankets during the first year.
Aid was sent to distressed children in Victoria as a result of bush fires, also donations to the Far West Scheme for crippled children.
When and wherever possible the CWA agitates for better travelling conditions and, as a result of their requests, the Pioneer Motor Service has established a fine rest room at Nowra, which is proving a great acquisition for travelling women and children.
The above are just some of the activities and work of the CWA, and now that one and all know something of the work done by these bands of energetic and unselfish women, it is hoped that the public of Bega and the South Coast will support and patronise the rodeo and gymkhana on the 27th of October.
The collectors will be calling on you later, and the CWA ask you to receive them kindly and to open both your hearts and your pockets and give generously.
Now, just reflect a moment - could any of the above projects be more worthy?
Your answer will in the size of your donation.
Thank you.
Victorious event
The end of the Second World War changed the name of the event to a Victory Rodeo and Gymkhana and it was a huge success, although because of rain it had to be moved from the Saturday to the Monday.
