Fire and Rescue NSW is conducting the hazard reduction on a parcel of land, about one hectare, in High Crescent through the day, June 6.
FRNSW bushfire officer for the south region Greg Rood said members of Tura's community fire unit will be involved in order to give them some hands-on training.
There will also be Fire and Rescue's accredited drone operator conducting aerial mapping and monitoring, and live streaming of the operation.
Local authorities have already been notified and FRNSW has conducted a letterbox drop to inform the community.
"There might be concern about us doing a hazard reduction burn on the long weekend, but we've got a lot of risk along the South Coast and the windows of opportunity are getting narrower," Mr Rood said.
"We have the opportunity this weekend so we have to take it.
"We're damned if we do and damned if we don't."
Mr Rood said this was one of several strategic burns planned to take place in the area over coming months, as weather conditions permit, with plenty of inter-agency consultation and cooperation.
