However members are reporting yellowfin tuna off Bermagui and Batemans Bay. With improving weather forecast local game anglers will be searching for yellowfin in our waters off Kianinny, Merimbula and Eden.
With the easing COVID-19 restrictions to be implemented from Friday, NSW will still not be allowing local and regional travel, but said local anglers could still be out on the water, following the government's social distancing provisions.
With restrictions set to ease further in the coming weeks and months, club members said it would be welcome to see everyone being able to get out and enjoy a fish on idyllic coastal beaches or offshore around the beautiful Far South Coast.
Club officials said there have been repeated warnings about the shallow conditions at the Merimbula bar and are urging all boaters to take particular care during periods of low tide, or high swell.
Bega Valley Shire Council has begun sandbagging along parts of Merimbula beach to prevent erosion. Members suggest if the false channel was blocked, natural tidal flow would undoubtedly scour out the bar and return it to normal.
In regular fishing news, excellent snapper are reported from local reefs such as White Rock, Long Point, Haycock, Horshoe, Lennards , North Head and Boyds Tower.
Good size gummy shark are about south of Haycock. Try a single bait, weighted to the bottom. Ocean flathead have reappeared at popular spots off Kianinny, Turingal Head, Bournda Island, Tura Headland, Short Point and Haycock. Try 15-20 fathoms.
Off our beaches good size Australian salmon are running and bag out catches (5 fish) the order of the day. Try a wire leader as good size tailor are also on the chew.
Activity is slowing in our estuaries as the temperature drops. Try the change of tide near Mogareeka in the Bega River which remains open.
There are here are bream, trevally and dusky flathead, best results from soft plastics.
In the Merimbula channel fish for trevally and tailor from around the bridge, the Marina, and the MBGLAC jetty - abide by distance rules. Best time is low tide with soft plastics or pilchard baits.
In the Merimbula Top Lake tailor are ever-present as well as bream, some dusky flathead and trevally.
