The Far South Coast Motorcyle Club will play host to the opening round of the famous King of MX motocross series for 2020 on the weekend of February 15-16.
Juniors will race on the Saturday, and seniors on the Sunday, and the event is expected to bring out some of the best riders in Australia to put on a great show for the people of the Far South Coast.
"The King of MX is one of the biggest race events of the year, and the best riders in Australia always come and race in it," Motorcycling NSW CEO Dave Cooke said
"This will be the first time the event has visited the South Coast, and Motorcycling NSW will be donating income from the event to the club for them to pass on to local organizations as they see fit."
"The team at the Far South Coast Motorcycle Club are an integral part of this community, so they will know better than us which local groups will be able to make best use of the donation."
Mr Cooke said one of the best aspects of the visit will be for people head along to the Sapphire Speedway motocross circuit and watch some of the country's best riders "putting on a spectacular show just for them".
"After everything the region has been through, I'm sure that while the money we can raise for the area will be welcome, the opportunity to take a day or two away from the hard work of cleaning up after the fires and come and spend some time at the track getting lost in the colour and excitement of a huge motocross event will be a welcome relief," he said.
"Hopefully we can put on a show that will provide a whole lot of fun for a day or two in the middle of a summer that hasn't really been much fun for anybody until now."
Motorcycling NSW is also hopeful the visit can provide a boost to the local economy with visiting riders and their families staying in the Bega Valley across the weekend.
"Everyone coming to town for the event will need somewhere to stay, eat, drink, and shop for supplies, so hopefully we can generate some income for the businesses in Bega and the surrounding region," Mr Cooke said.
"It's so important that after missing out on the normal holiday season income that we support these businesses as the whole region benefits from the local economy continuing to tick over."
He went on to say a huge field of riders were coming from across Australia and they were keen to see big crowds and give the people of the Bega Valley a show.
"They're really looking forward to coming to Bega and making people happy," he said.
The FSC Motorcyle Club races are held at the Sapphire Speedway on Tantawangalo Lane near Candelo with racing from 9am each day.
The club will have a canteen available.
