On behalf of the extended Cameron family of Barragga Bay, Batehaven, Sydney and Melbourne, I would like to thank all of the rescue and recovery agencies who attended the search for, and eventual of recovery of my much-loved son Bruce Cass Cameron, a loving husband, father and brother who disappeared while snorkeling off Barragga Bay about 8am on Friday, December 27, 2019.
The rescue activity took place during increasingly strong winds, dangerously rough seas and smokey conditions.
The search became a complex multi-agency operation which included the NSW South Coast Police District of Bermagui (Snr Const Michael Kingma) and Sgt Josh Lavander (from Narooma); Marine Area Command and Police Diving Unit (Andrew and Lincoln); the Marine Rescue NSW Crew of "Bermagui 30" (Ray McLeod, Caren Parfitt, Greg Jones and Dennis Walker); Australian Lifeguard Service (including jet-ski operators and swimmers); Far South Coast Lifesaving Duty Officer Cheryl McCarthy and her parents; Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew; NSW Ambulance and paramedics and various State Emergency Services (SES) personnel.
Unfortunately, Bruce was not found until Saturday afternoon, December 28.
The overall coordination of all these wonderful people was very impressive and quite demanding of the officers concerned.
Our family members were consulted throughout with tact and kind understanding which we very much appreciated.
We also thank the many other unknown individual volunteers who assisted over these two days. We are forever grateful for their efforts and support.
Geoff Cameron, Bermagui
