The tourist exclusion zone has been withdrawn and the RFS are encouraging visitors to return to the villages and towns of the Far South Coast.
With improving conditions local anglers frequented our in-shore reefs and estuaries over the past week.
Morwong and snapper are on the chew off White Rock, Long Point and Haycock reefs as well as the reefs near Eden in Twofold Bay.
Ocean flathead are a little quiet but good catches are reported from SE of Turingal Headland and off Tura Headland, try 17 fathoms and pilchard baits. Be especially careful crossing the Merimbula Bar as it has become very shallow.
Lovely trevally and bream are on the chew all along the Merimbula channel down from the bridge, at Mogareeka and in the Pambula channel near the Shark Hole.
Best time is low tide with both soft plastics or pilchard baits. Tailor are about and will take surface lures.
Some lovely dusky flathead are responding to soft plastic lures.
The club also had reports of a sizeable swordfish entering the Pambula estaury during the week.
Unfortunately it subsequently died and club officials said it was likely to have been ill to enter the estuary.
The swordfish was not the first large gamefish to make its way up the Pambula rivermouth with a marlin found in Pambula Lake in 2019.
At the Merimbula Wharf good size calamari squid are available morning and evening.
Best results from prawn-like slow sinking jigs.
With lots of black ash flowing in the currents, luderick have been seen in a spawning frenzy at the wharf often breaking water with their unusual activity.
If conditions remain favourable and there are no further bushfire emergencies, the club is proposing to hold the Eve O'Brien Properties Dusky Flathead Competition as scheduled on the weekend of February 1-2.
With $2,000 in cash prizes sponsored by Eve O'Brien Properties, this strictly catch and release competition is widely popular.
All entries are counted by photograph against a DPI brag mat.
Entries are open to all at Spencer Park clubroom on January 31 with the briefing, more details at the website.
The Club will be open this Friday and all are welcome.
Darragh Reynolds is your scheduled host.
