Last week the Rural Crime Prevention Team visited communities through the Bega Valley, including Bermagui, Cobargo, Candelo and Wyndham, to connect with people, provide information and hear about their concerns.

The first town visited in the Valley was Bermagui, which was attended by about 50 people, according to the team's southern zone coordinator Detective Sergeant Damian Nott.

He said the team had spent the week seeing people from the region "under threat of fire", either providing drinking water, preventing risk of thefts via high-profile police patrols or providing support "for people already struggling so much".

He said the main concerns he had heard were that people were uncertain about where to access up-to-date information on where the fires were located and what to expect, as well as how to access support services.

Detective Sergeant Nott said he was aware not everybody who wanted to see the rural crime team were able to make it to a meeting point in person, so he encouraged them to contact their local police station to request the team visit them at their property.

"We'll go to them," he said.
