On Wednesday, HMAS Adelaide Lieutenant Phillip Qin and engineer Mark Lawley were visiting the Cobargo Showground to learn all they could about the fire.

"The navy is here to help and we will do everything we can," Lieutenant Qin said.

"It's pretty devastating to see a lot of the farm area absolutely charred black.

"It looks like it will take a lot of time to rebuild and reestablish the infrastructure back to where it was."

The recon team had started liaising with the community in Bermagui and planned to head further north once they had finished work in Cobargo.

Lieutenant Qin said they would meet with local councils, the NSW Rural Fire Service and members of the community to learn what the regions needed, then pass the information onto their superiors to see what the navy could offer.

He said having enough manpower was a major need due to the isolation of some communities.

When asked what Cobargo's district needed specifically, he said "a lot".

"They need a variety of different resources, from generators to chainsaws to cut trees and clean roads to restore basic order and power supplies - amongst the many things that this community needs right now," he said.
