Shoalhaven City Council and volunteers relief groups have been overwhelmed by donations from far and wide and are now at capacity.

The best donation the public can give is a monetary one, a Shoalhaven City Council spokesperson said.

"The good will of the community has been amazing, however the donations that are occurring are becoming a logistical issue for front line staff and removing resources from the key areas of need.

"The community support of donated items has been overwhelming and extremely generous to date."

Community members, agencies, RFS and council have organised food and supply drops to Conjola, Manyana and Fishermans Paradise.

"We really appreciate the generosity but experience with emergencies shows that donations of money, where possible, help affected communities recover sooner. This is because people can make their own choices - including purchasing the goods they need for their own families."

Doners are also asked to phone before sending anything to the impacted areas so it is directed to the appropriate location.

"Do not take donations to the Ulladulla Civic Centre as storage is at capacity," a council spokesperson said.

Environmental group Treading Lightly Inc has also reached capacity after being "overwhelmed with love and support".

"All of the donations of food, supplies, clothing, and many other things has helped get us through some hard days," founder Monica Mudge.

"We are at the stage where we no longer have the capacity to store and distribute any more for now.

"If we could ask in the kindest way possible to please hold off any more collections or deliveries that would so greatly appreciated."

"Monetary donations to the Treading Lightly Bushfire Appeal are recommended. Alternatively the Rural Fire Service or Mayoral Relief Fund would be other good options."

Treading Lightly intend to use these funds to get help where it's most needed during this ever changing time of need.

"We aim to support getting local businesses back on their feet."

Shoalhaven City Council opens mayoral relief fund

The mayoral relief fund continues to remain open. Mayor Amanda Findley opened the relief fund in response to the Currowan fire crisis on December 6.

The Mayoral Appeal Fund is the preferred method to assist the Shoalhaven towns and villages impacted.
