The Tianjara fire was expected to hit the borders of their properties on Friday afternoon. A catastrophic fire danger is forecast for the fireground on Saturday.

Fire burnt along Braidwood Road's north and south edge near Tianjara, while further north east towards Nowra patches of Jerrawangala National Park were scorched from the blaze as it moved through on Thursday.

Tianjara resident Andrew Phillips, who works in Canberra, was readying his home of five years for the approaching bushfire on Friday afternoon and expected the blaze to move through the crowns of trees towards the house.

He moved animals on the property inside and prepared water supplies. His wife had already evacuated to Berry on Tuesday with their horse.

"Since then I've been trying to prep up," he said."Maybe it'll pay off, we'll see.

"If the firies decide it's time to go, then I'll go with them. But if we manage to let the fire pass over, I'll stay here and keep at it, just keep suppressing it.

"It could all end really badly, but we'll keep at it."

Rural Fire Service units from St Georges Basin, Basin View and Tomerong arrived to defend the Tianjara properties.

Mr Phillips said a forest near his property was so dry it was "crispy". A permanent creek had run dry about three months ago.

The window to backburn last winter had been shorter than usual, due to the longer fire season.

"I don't think that would have too much impact on this, but it's part of the bigger picture of keeping fuel loads down because it's so difficult to burn," Mr Phillips said.

Lindsay Lavis was evacuating his Tianjara home near Braidwood Road and moving to a paddock five kilometres away on Greta's Road after speaking to firefighters. Firefighters escorted his wife to Nowra on Friday morning.

"We've got a pretty aggressive bushfire coming, it's going through the rooftops [of trees]. I've been asked to leave, because it's going to get pretty intense in here," he said.

"I've got the firies to look after the place.

"I know some of the firefighters in the brigades. If they've told me to go, it's time to go.

"If I could stay here, I would."

Mr Lavis said he hadn't dealt with a bushfire this serious before but expected his home, which he built using steel frame, would survive the fire.

The Tianjara fire remains at an advice level and has burnt more than 5300 hectares.

Fire is burning on both the southern and northern side of Braidwood Road and west of Jannung Lane near Tianjara.

Wandean Road and Braidwood Road are closed.

Meanwhile, the Currowan bushfire was upgraded to watch and act on Friday afternoon.
